This has been a cold month and I felt very cold, too! Our printer decided not to talk to our new computer, but thanks to our computer “specialist”, it is working now. There are a few problems still, but I can use it now.
I have been weeding books and seeing how we can change things around. To celebrate Black History Month, I have highlighted several books by Black authors, for the enjoyment of our patrons.
We are excited to have the papers from the county, vital records, cemetery indexes, town histories, Biographical sketches, church and military records and much more to those interested in Greene County history.
You can access the site at https://greenecounty.advantage.preservation.com and enjoy reading and discovering the history of our area. This was a project sponsored by many Greene County people and organizations. There were a lot of fundraisers and memorial gifts given for this endeavor, and we were glad we could contribute. Check this out and you will be surprised at what you find!
I have several regular patrons come into the library, in spite of the cold weather. I have tried to stay open when others have been closed, and am hopeful there will be more who feel comfortable venturing out, when the snow is gone.
I am looking forward to having the younger patrons come back to the library. Everyone is tired of this pandemic. I think the ones who have been taking classes on Zoom would be wanting to get back to school.
As a quick, personal note includes the fact that my husband and I have had our first shot! YAY! Still wearing the mask and so are the patrons.

The late Sen. John McCain shares about his heroes, political figures he encountered and about his family in “Worth the Fighting For.” This is a second volume detailing his service in the U. S. Navy and politics after his release after being held as a prisoner in Viet Nam for 5-1/2 years.
His first book, “Faith of My Fathers”, told of his life before 1972. He shares his deep love for his family and his country. He emphasized what he considered to be the best in America and what is best in each person who is part of our country. ~Nancy Hanaman
RIPPEY NEWS
I took advantage of the deep freezes the last couple weeks and started cleaning and sorting a room upstairs. Since I don’t have a basement, the two rooms and hallway have been used for storage. I actually gave the room a fresh coat of paint and am being very selective about what will be in that room.
I had to chuckle when I discovered some material, already sorted, some cut in squares, and ready for what looks like a child’s quilt. A memory of being with Velda DeMoss in a fabric shop many decades ago flashed through my mind. She said I could make a baby quilt and even helped with the selection and cutting. I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen and I will find a good home for these items! ~Jean Borgeson
